Jesuit Ministries Serve Schools, Parishes, Communities

The scope and variety of California Province ministries and communities reflects both our roots and energetic response to current and future needs:

  • Immigrants helped build our Province and they continue to be an essential part of our pastoral, social, and educational ministries.
  • Drawing on our institutional resources—including three universities, 17 primary and secondary schools, and 12 parishes—we are forging unique partnerships between schools, local dioceses, and other religious orders.
  • Responding to local needs, one retreat center has designed spiritual programs for Spanish speakers and brought Ignatian spirituality into the community; another has offered programs for the homeless.
  • Woman tutoring a young girlLay partners head key ministries, such as Jesuit Volunteer Corps and the regional offices of Ignatian Volunteer Corps. They also lead retreats and serve as spiritual companions, and fill important roles as provincial assistants.
